Cold air returns Monday, dropping temperatures and ending with snow showers.

From the National Weather Service 

Rain showers will diminish this a.m., and change over to a few light snow showers. Snow showers will become widespread this eve and tonight. Accumulating snow is expected, with the highest amounts along and west of U.S.-131. Tue a.m.'s commute will be slow and slick.

The Taliban has agreed to a temporary cease-fire in Afghanistan, without saying when it would begin. It provides a window during which a peace agreement with the United States could be signed.

Two separate violent attacks shook religious communities on a weekend that was supposed to be about celebration and togetherness.

On Saturday a man stabbed five people at a Hanukkah celebration in a New York City suburb, including a rabbi's son. 

The suspecthas been chargedwith five counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree burglary. He has pleaded not guilty, and his familysays he has a long history of mental illness.

Three people have been killed after a man walked into a Texas church and fired two shots during communion Sunday. 

The gunman was taken down by another armed church member.

Notables 

The FDA has officially changed the federal minimum age to purchase all tobacco products from 18 to 21. The change include e-cigarettes and vaping cartridges. 

Michigan astronaut Christina Koch has set the record for longest single spaceflight by a woman, breaking the previous 288-day record set by former space station commander Peggy Whitson.
