WML: Life's A Gift For West Michigan Man Saved By First Responders

A Grand Rapids man says he’s not concerned about birthday presents from family this year. He’s thankful to be alive.

Val Kudryavtsev says turning 35 is an answered prayer and he’s focused on the gift of life.

Val's stepfather, Bob Ford, joined Justin to talk about the inspiring story of how his son's life was saved by the quick response of those on the scene.

Kentwood Police Officer Seth Beelan was first on the scene. Without him, Val would not be here, period. Seth dealt with the initial emergency and worked feverishly to keep him alive and stem the bleeding.

Bob also credits the skilled work of Firefighters James Hosier, who jumped into action and into the ambulance to help control the bleeding, along with Brandon DeHaan, who set the IV for Val and paramedic Marv Raap.
