2 Immigration Announcement

In an afternoon address at the White House Rose Garden, President Trump will deliver remarks on "Modernizing Our Immigration System for a Stronger America." The latest effort by the White House stresses the economic benefit of younger, better educated immigrants who already speak English. This is opposed to those who now get green cards, due to family ties or participation in the "diversity visa lottery." It is unlikely the plan will go anywhere with Democrats in control of the House.

3 Alabama abortion bill

Alabama's Republican governor signed the most strict abortion legislation in the nation Wednesday, making performing an abortion a felony in nearly all cases. "To the bill's many supporters, this legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians' deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God," Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement.

The bill's sponsors want to give conservatives on the US Supreme Court a chance to gut abortion rights nationwide, but Democrats and abortion rights advocates criticized the bill as a slap in the face to women voters.

Tigers

Justin Verlander allowed two hits in seven impressive innings against his former team, and the Houston Astros won their eighth straight game, 5-1 over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.

Another one..

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio will announce Thursday his plans to seek the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination -- joining an already crowded field of 24 Democrats.

5G NETWORKS

Through an executive order issued yesterday, President Trump declared a national emergency that stops US companies from using telecommunications equipment made by firms posing a national security risk. The order does not specifically name any country or company, but this paves the way for a ban on companies doing business with China's Huawei Technologies Co.
