Alabama Governor Signs Strict Abortion Bill

(Montgomery, AL) -- It will soon be illegal to perform an abortion in Alabama unless the mother's health is in jeopardy.

Governor Kay Ivey signed the most restrictive anti-abortion bill into law Wednesday.

The law's backers are not stopping at their state's borders. They admitted they crafted the law with the hopes that it would be the vehicle to overturn the Roe. v. Wade decision that made abortion legal in all states.

The Republican governor said the law is a "powerful testament to Alabamians' deeply held belief that every life is precious." Still, she admitted because of Roe v. Wade it is unlikely the law can be enforced.
