Man, 21, shot and killed in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating a possible homicide after a man was fatally shot early Sunday.

GRPD believes the shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. on Highland Street east of Madison Avenue.

Investigators say the victim was a 21-year-old man. He was dropped off at Mercy Health St. Mary's Hospital shortly after police arrived on scene. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"It was continuously like, bam bam bam bam bam," neighbor Herberto Basulto told 24 Hour News 8 Sunday.

He said he woke up to gunshots and saw the gunman speed away and then came back, possibly to try to get rid of evidence.

"They (gunshots) were loud. I could hear it like next to my house. That was the one thing that woke me up. So I run downstairs and I hear the car take off and then he come back and by the time I got to my door I saw a car over there and then he took off again," Basulto recalled.
