Some runners disqualified from RBR 10K race

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Some runners that went off-course during the 10K race at the Amway River Bank Run were disqualified.

It seems that a series of events caused confusion for some of the participants.

According to race organizers, one of the lead vehicles was forced to stop for a safety reason. Therefore, it veered from the course, stopped, fix the issue and continued the course.

“A few athletes continued on what they presumed was the correct course. When the athletes noticed their error, they attempted to correct the error by returning to the course. However, their deviation from the measured course resulted in a lesser distance completed by those athletes,” said race director David Madiol in a statement.

Since the deviated course was shorter than 10K, those runners were disqualified
