SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WOOD) — Twenty-six feet below the surface of Goshorn Lake north of Saugatuck, Jim Resseguie found a class ring. That was about 20 years ago, and he's held on to it all this time — but not because he wants to.
“I’ve tried to return it," he said. "I’ve reached out to numerous people but I haven’t had any luck."
The ring is marked with a few clues about its owner.
“It says, 'Tina, Holland High School,' and then on the inside it says, 'TLS,' year 1991,” Resseguie said.
A scuba diver, he found the ring at the base of the old high dive board. He believes it was lost after its owner dove into the lake.
“It was laying right on the bottom and I could see it glint in the light,” Resseguie said. “I went and picked it up and, it was amazing, it was just laying on the bottom.”
Carol Sullivan, who lives near the lake, remembers the high dive board at Pottowatomi Park.
“Back in my day, it only cost 25 cents to get into the park,” Sullivan said. “But it was a special park. It was like the only place to come to that had that on a small lake.”
The ring was not the only thing Resseguie found while submerged under the waves.
