Body of woman found along Lake Michigan ID'd

LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say the body of a woman that washed up along the shore of Lake Michigan near Bridgman Sunday is a woman who has been missing for months.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman Monday as Eddisa Concepcion Herrera, who disappeared on Dec. 21 after jumping into Lake Michigan at North Avenue Beach in Chicago.

NBC 5 in Chicago says two men jumped into the frigid waters with Herrera. One escaped and the other was rescued from Lake Michigan and taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the station.

Someone walking along the beach north of Warren Dunes State Park in Lake Township spotted Herrera’s body around 12:40 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators have deemed her death accidental.

Concepcion, 24, was a graduate student at University of Illinois at Chicago, according to the NBC station.
