Despite record, MSU, Izzo are knocking at Duke's door

WASHINGTON (via WOOD TV 8) — It will be a colossal clash on Sunday when No. 2 Michigan State and top-seeded Duke meet for a sixth time in the NCAA tournament.

For the last 20 years, these two teams have been near the top of college basketball. MSU head coach Tom Izzo and Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski first met in the tournament in the 1999 Final Four; that’s where this story begins.

Coach K and the Blue Devils beat Izzo and the Spartans 68-62 on their way to a national runner-up finish. It was the first of four times Duke would oust Michigan State from the tournament, the most recent in 2015 during the Final Four in Indianapolis.
