Corp of Engineers to hold open house on river restoration

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Army Corp of Engineers wants your thoughts on the effort to restore the Grand River rapids.

The Corp will hold an open house on April 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. atDeVosPlace to gather comments as part of an environmental impact study the Corp will conduct on certain parts of the plan.

The open house is required as part of the environmental impact statement, which is being compiled by the Corp of Engineers.

While the current plan addresses issues like invasive species and flooding, the Corp of Engineers wants to hear from the public.

“We're excited the public can actually come out and provide their comments,” said Matt Chapman, who is the director and project coordinator for Grand Rapids Whitewater, the group workingto restore the rapidsin the Grand River through downtown Grand Rapids.

Leaders of Grand Rapids Whitewater are convinced they have a plan in place to address the issues they'll talk about at the open house.
