KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan state officials have ordered a Kentwood auto shop to stop all repair work after the business failed to register with the state.
The Michigan Department of State says it served a temporary cease and desist order to NL Repair & Performance LLC last month. The shop is located at 5246 S. Division Avenue, near 52nd Street SE.
State officials say an inspector visited the facility on Jan. 18 and determined it was not registered. The state says shop owner Manuel Sanabria-Galarza was told what he needed to do to become complaint, but failed to do so.
The Michigan State Department also issued a temporary cease and desist order on Feb, 6 for Welling’s Garage at 155 N. Sheridan Road in Remus. A state inspector also discovered the Mecosta County shop was not registered with the state during a Jan. 16 inspection.
Temporary cease and desist orders prohibit anyone working at the specified business from doing any further work until the facility is licensed and complying with state law. Anyone who knowingly works at an auto repair shop without a registration or certificate could face up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
Customers with complaints against either business are encouraged to call the Office of Investigative Services automotive complaint line at 517.335.1410. The state says any vehicle owners who file a civil lawsuit are entitled to be reimbursed for repairs by any unregistered facility.
