Search stalled for driver of car pulled from Plaster Creek over the weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Strong currents have stalled the search for a driver whose vehicle was pulled from Grand Rapids’ Plaster Creek over the weekend.

Divers could not enter the creek or nearby Grand River Monday because the pull of the water was too strong.

Grand Rapids police are still searching for the registered owner of the black Audi which crashed into the creek shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Authorities say witnesses saw it barreling down Market Avenue before it jumped the curb and crashed through the guard rail.

No one saw anyone get out of the car after it crashed, and no one was inside the vehicle when a crane lifted the vehicle out of the water Sunday morning.

The rapid current prevented divers from entering the creek until Sunday morning to hook the vehicle so it could be recovered.
