Fuel spills after semi crash in SW MI

NEWBERG TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A semi-truck crashed on M-60 in southwest Michigan Sunday morning, spilling about 100 gallons of fuel.

It happened around 5:45 a.m. on M-60 west of Timberland Drive in the small community of Jones in Newberg Township. The Cass County Sheriff's Office said the eastbound semi crashed on the south side of the road.

The driver, a 50-year-old from Ypsilanti, told deputies she was bound for Detroit when she fell asleep at the wheel.

She was hospitalized; her condition was not known later Sunday.

The crash remains under investigation, but the sheriff's office said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been involved and that the driver was wearing her seat belt.
