Carousel removed from The Crossroads mall

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Visitors to The Crossroads mall in Portage were surprised and dismayed this weekend to find an empty space where a much-loved carousel used to turn.

Arizona-based Fun Brands Carousels said it got notice at the last minute that its lease would not be renewed.

Fun Brands was told Thursday that the mall wanted the carousel out by Saturday, East Coast General Manager Michelle Wassen told 24 Hour News 8 over the phone Sunday evening. She said she took that last-minute decision "very personally."

The carousel had been at The Crossroads, located at S. Westnedge Avenue near Romence Road, for 13 years.

It is being moved to a new home in Miami, Florida.
