UPDATE: Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting

PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Calhoun County law enforcement killed a man who shot two of his sons overnight after threatening to kill his wife.

The sheriff's office idenitfied the suspect as 46-year-old Joel David Kellay of Battle Creek. 

Officers responded to a home on Kimball Avenue in Pennfield Township around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Saxton said Kellay returned home drunk and had a physical fight with his wife. During the struggle he got out a pistol and began shooting, missing the woman.

She managed to get to her parents' home, which is next door, and called 9-1-1.

Four young men, ranging in ages 17 to 22, were still inside the home. Two of them were the couple's children.
