Portland store moving after ice jam flooding

PORTLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A downtown Portland business damaged by flooding from ice jams on the Grand River is moving.

The Blue Mason Jar is relocating from 160 Kent St. to 1323 E. Bridge St., owner Pat Kline confirms. She said the business will be closed from March 27 until opening day on April 1 for the move.

On Feb. 6, ice jams caused the Grand River to spill over its banks and flood dozens of homes and businesses on Kent and Water streets, forcing some people to evacuate.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Ionia County on Feb. 13 because of the flooding and ice storm damage in Belding.

Ionia County was again under a Flood Advisory Wednesday because of an ice jam causing fluctuating water levels in Portland.
