MSP: 30-vehicle pileup on I-94 kills Kzoo Co. driver

ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police say a 30-vehicle pileup on I-94 near Mattawan killed a driver from Kalamazoo County.

The crash happened around 9:05 a.m. Tuesday on westbound I-94 near mile marker 66 in Van Buren County’s Antwerp Township.

MSP says an 89-year-old driver from Kalamazoo County died in the crash, but they are not releasing the victim’s name at this time.

Authorities previously confirmed two people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. It’s unclear if the person who died was among them.

Troopers say they’re still trying to piece together what led to the pileup, which involved semi-trucks and vehicles.

Lake-effect snow and stronger winds led to numerous crashes Tuesday morning on I-94, I-196, I-96 and US-131.

This pileup shut down I-94 for several hours. It has since reopened.
