West Michigan expected to benefit from Fiat Chrysler growth

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — The announcement that Fiat Chrysler is growing and adding some 6,500 jobs in southeast Michigan is likely welcome news to hundreds of auto suppliers and engineering firms in West Michigan.

Chrysler made the announcement Tuesday that it would build and renovate facilities in the Detroit area to create the company's next line of SUVs.

Experts say the announcement sends a message: Michigan remains the epicenter of domestic automotive production.

"Jobs in Michigan are jobs for West Michigan. This investment, there's no other way to put it but huge," said Tim Mroz, vice president of strategic initiatives at The Right Place, West Michigan's economic development agency.
