Wind knocks out power to tens of thousands

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Consumers Energy says most of the homes and businesses that lost power Sunday as strong windsbattered West Michigan should be back online by mid-day Monday.

Statewide, more than 38,000 Consumers Energy customers were without service as of around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the utility'sinteractive power outage map. At that point, Consumers said it believed the worst of the winds were over.

"That's going to be good news for the rest of the night," Guy Packard, the utility's vice president of electrical operations, told 24 Hour News 8 Sunday evening. "That allows us to get ahead of the outages that are happening. Right now, we're predicting that we should have the majority of our outages wrapped up tomorrow by mid-day."
