Deputies: W. MI pair caught with 19 IDs, stolen checks

Calhoun County detectives are working with other agencies to track down more than a dozen victims of identity theft allegedly by a Barry County man and an Allegan County woman.

It all started around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation in Springfield.

Inside the vehicle, deputies say they discovered 19 IDs from Michigan and five other states that didn’t belong to the suspects, as well as stolen checks from eight people living in five West Michigan counties.

Investigators say they arrested a 42-year-old Dowling man, who was on parole for receiving or concealing stolen property, burglary, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and possessing a firearm. A 33-year-old woman from Plainwell was also taken into custody. Deputies say she was on probation for welfare fraud.

The sheriff’s office is withholding the pair’s names until they’re formally charged in the case.
