Two Chicago police officers are dead after being hit by a commuter train.
The officers were investigating a report of shots fired on the city's Far South Side shortly after 6 p.m. Monday when they were hit by a Metra train.
Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson identified the officers as Eduardo Marmolejo and Conrad Gary. Both were relatively new to the force with Marmolejo being there two-and-a-half years and Gary with only 18 months of experience.
The person who the officers were trying to identify was eventually taken into custody and a weapon was recovered.
