GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids girl who won the Fifth Third River Bank Run 5K is receiving national recognition for her achievements.
Clara James-Heer, now 12, is a finalist for the Sports Illustrated SportsKid of the Year. The annual award recognizes the achievements and poise athletes exhibit while on and off their field of play.
Clara was the first female to cross the finish line in the 5K this year with an overall time of 17 minutes and 52 seconds. She has won several other AAU events and is an accomplished triathlete.
The award’s winner is announced at the end of the month.
