You can now have a pet pig in Holland

HOLLAND, Sydney Smith, Holland Sentinel — In Holland, you can now bring home the bacon.

Holland City Council, during its Oct. 17 meeting, approved an ordinance amendment allowing for the keeping of miniature pigs as household pets within city limits. The amendment passed 5-2. Councilmen Wayne Klomparens and Scott Corbin voted “no.” Councilmen Quincy Byrd and Raul Garcia were absent.

The amendment came after an inquiry from a Holland resident on whether she is allowed to keep a pet minipig in her home. Defined by the U.S. and state, a minipig weighs 120 pounds or less at maturity. They are also pigs not used for livestock, food or fiber.
