Alleged kidnapping leads to Calhoun Co. drug bust

LEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Reports of an alleged kidnapping turned into a drug bust Friday evening in Lee Township.

It happened at 9:07 p.m. Calhoun County Sheriff's deputies received a call that a 21-year-old girl had been kidnapped and was being held against her will in the 21000 block of 23 Mile Road in Lee Township.

Deputies say they found the 21-year-old victim from Atlanta unharmed. She was taken to a safe location where family members will pick her up.

Authorities say further investigation and interviews showed the 21-year-old woman went to the house voluntarily, however she was sexually assaulted while there.

Deputies say they found an illegal marijuana grow operation at the scene.

Deputies made contact with a 49-year-old man from Cuba, who was residing at the residence and looking after the grow operation.

The Cuban man was placed under arrest and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail, where he will await arraignment on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct and Manufacturing/Delivering Marijuana.
