Ottawa Co. confirms 1st human case of West Nile virus

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Ottawa County health officials have confirmed their first human case of West Nile virus in the county this year.

The Ottawa County Health Department announced the development in a news release Friday. They’re not disclosing who the patient is or what their condition is.

Kent County health officials previously confirmed five human cases of West Nile in their county; one of them, 64-year-old Miguel Hernandez, died.

Human cases of West Nile virus have also popped up in Berrien, Oakland and Wayne counties. One person in Wayne County has died from it.
