Victim's mom: Shooting death was an accident

SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Vicksburg-area man was arrested after another was shot and killed early Saturday, but the victim's mother told 24 Hour News 8 she's sure the death was an accident.

The shooting happened in a home on West Tremblay Drive near VW Avenue E in Schoolcraft Township just before 1 a.m. Saturday. William Michael Bolton, 28, died at the scene.

The prosecutor's office has issued an open murder charge against a 25-year-old man in connection to Bolton's death. That 25-year-old, whose name was not immediately released, was jailed pending arraignment proceedings, which are expected to happen Monday.

William Bolton's mother Kathy Bolton said she had spoke with her son about an hour before he was killed. She said the suspect and her son were friends and lived together.
