Around 100 people ill after convention in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Around 100 of people have become ill after a convention held at the DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

The National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association held its annual convention from Aug. 7-18, and several people complained of flu-like symptoms at its conclusion. Thousands of people attended the conference, but at this point, around 100 have contacted the Kent County Health Department.

Reports began coming to the Kent County Health Department over the weekend, and the department is now investigating what type of influenza it is and if it’s a new strain of the virus the public should be concerned with.
