Ferris State DPS warns of tuition payment scam

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Campus police are telling students to watch out for phone scammers posing as Ferris State University officials and demanding money.

The Ferris State Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that the college's financial aid office informed it of the scam calls. The scammers tell students they have outstanding bills and that they will be dropped from classes if they don't pay up over the phone.

Campus police emphasized that the university doesn't take payment over the phone. Tuition payments have to be made either in person or online at the university's secure website.

If you get one of the calls, hang up. Do not give out any personal or financial information over the phone.

If you think you've already been targeted by or fallen victim to the scam, you can call campus police at 231.591.5000.
