Beer truck crosses shoulder; 2 escape crash

BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — It was a close call Thursday in Ionia County after a beer truck plowed into a pickup truck and another truck that had broken down on the side of the highway.

It happened around 5:15 p.m. on westbound I-96 near Morrison Lake Road, south of Saranac.

A flat-bed semi-truck had broken down along the side of the highway and the driver of a pickup truck stopped to help, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.

Both drivers were standing outside their vehicles when deputies say a semi, carrying kegs of beer, crossed the shoulder and hit the pick-up and pushed it into the broken-down semi.

The two drivers were able to jump out of the way but suffered minor injuries in the crash.
