2 killed in trike crash; suspected drunk driver arrested

WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say two people were killed and a suspected drunk driver was arrested after a crash near Coopersville Sunday night.

It happened shortly before 10 p.m. at the intersection of 40th Avenue and Cleveland Street in Wright Township.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said an eastbound motorcycle trike stuck a southbound SUV in the intersection. Both people were thrown from the trike and taken to the hospital where they later died from their injuries.

The sheriff’s office identified the driver of the trike as 72-year-old Larry Hein and the passenger as 67-year-old Joyce Hein. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, deputies said.

The driver of the Jeep was lodged at the Ottawa County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death. Authorities are not releasing the driver’s name pending arraignment.

The crash remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
