Man charged in attack on Mitten Brewing employee

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man marked his birthday in court Friday, where he was charged in the alleged attack on a worker outside The Mitten Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids.

Travis Wayne Loveland, 32, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault in connection to the July 20 assault outside the brewery.

The 25-year-old worker was standing outside a door on the west side of the brewery facing Quarry Street when it happened. He told coworkers a man approached him and asked for a cigarette, but he had smoked his last one and told the suspect no.

When the worker turned to go back inside the brewery, the suspect attacked, smashing him in the back of the head with a hard object.
