Amtrak now accepting bicycles on Chicago-bound train

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Amtrak is giving travelers from Battle Creek and Kalamazoo a new option to ditch the car and bring their bike to Chicago.

Starting Wednesday, Amtrak will be accepting bicycles on its Wolverine service line, which runs from Pontiac, Michigan to Chicago, with stops at Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.

Amtrak said the service will allow bicyclists to connect with some popular Michigan trails, including the Battle Creek Linear Pathway and Kalamazoo River Trailway.

Riders will need to pay an additional $10 to bring their bicycle on the train and make a reservation with Amtrak. The Wolverine service line makes three round trips between Pontiac and Chicago each day.

Amtrak's two other state-sponsored lines, including the Pere Marquette which stops in Grand Rapids and Holland, already welcome bicycles aboard.
