Abandoned Greenville business catches fire again

GREENVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — The old Northland Refrigeration plant caught fire for the second time in less than a year Monday.

Firefighters raced to the scene just before 6 p.m. and found visible smoke and flames coming from the building located at 701 Ranney Drive, off North Lafayette Street. Greenville Public Safety Staff Sgt. Brian Blomstrom said no one was hurt and firefighters had the flames extinguished less than an hour after they got on scene.

There was no obvious cause of the fire, Blomstrom said.

"Everything is wide open at the present time,” Blomstrom told 24 Hour News 8 at the scene.

On Oct. 30 of 2017, the same business was the scene of a much larger fire. The portion of the building that burned in that case was torn down, though the foundation floor of the building can still be seen.
