7 injured in BC apartment complex fire; 80 displaced

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say seven people were  injured after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Battle Creek  Sunday night. 

It happened around 10:27 p.m. Sunday at the Village Inn apartments located at 80 Riverside Drive near Goguac Street.

Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker told 24 Hour News 8 that seven people were injured. Their conditions are unknown.

A firefighter  was treated for exhaustion and another received a forearm injury. Both  received treatment, according to the city of Battle Creek.

All three buildings of the apartment complex were damaged, two buildings were badly damaged.

The  American Red Cross is assisting and making arrangements for the  estimated 80 displaced residents at the Covenant Hope Church, located at  1021 Wagner Drive. 

Officials say residents can pick up rescued  pets at the Calhoun County Animal Center, located 165 Union Street. The  shelter's phone number is 269.963.6582.

One was resident was unaccounted for Monday morning, but authorities later said all residents were located.  

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
