Whitecaps founders announce new team leadership

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The two men who brought the Whitecaps to West Michigan are stepping away from the team’s day-to-day operations.

Whitecaps CEO Lew Chamberlin and Chief Financial Officer Denny Baxter will shift to the newly created roles of chairman and founder at the end of the year. The move will allow them to focus on “strategic oversight of the organization,” a Thursday news release stated.

In turn, Joe Chamberlin, who currently serves as vice president of finance and administration, will become the team’s CEO. Steve McCarthy, who is vice president of sales, will take over as Whitecaps president when Scott Lane, who has been with the team since its inception, retires at the end of the year.
