BCPD: Riverside Park, teen abduction attempts may be linked

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Battle Creek police believe a man who tried to grab a woman at Riverside Park Thursday may be the same person who tried to abduct a teenage girl days before.

The most recent incident happened around 7:15 a.m. Thursday at Riverside Park, located at G Drive N and Riverside Drive.

The woman told police she was walking on the path near Riverside School when the man tried to grab her. When she screamed, the suspect ran off into the woods and another walker came to her aid.

Officers searched the area around the school but didn’t find the suspect.

Two days earlier and just over a mile away, a 15-year-old girl told officers she was in her front yard in the 100 block of Minges Circle when a vehicle pulled up. She said the man inside asked her for directions before pulling her into the vehicle and trying to drive away.

Investigators say both victims’ descriptions of the man were similar. The woman said he’s a white man in his early 30s who was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and had a short curly blond beard. The teen said he was driving a two-toned four-door SUV wth a black bottom and light blue top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Calhoun County Central Dispatch at 269.781.0911.
