Prison for ex-WMU athlete in robbery linked to murder

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Western Michigan University basketball player will serve prison time for crimes linked to a 2016 murder.

Joeviair Kennedy was sentenced Monday to between 17 and 40 years in prison for armed robbery and two years for a weapons charge. He received credit for 584 days served.

Last month, a jury convicted Kennedy of the robbery and weapons charge, but acquitted him of felony murder in the death of 19-year-old WMU student Jacob Jones.
