GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State University Interim President John Engler will testify before a U.S. Senate subcommittee investigating the Larry Nassar sexual assault case.
Engler, a former Michigan governor, will go to Washington, D.C. July 24 to answer senators' questions. He'll be speaking before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance and Data Security in a presentation titled "Strengthening and Empowering US Amateur Athletes: Moving Forward with Solutions.”
The subcommittee has been looking into institutional failings that allowed Nassar, at the time a well-respected sports doctor, to abuse his patients. Hundreds of girls and women, many of them athletes and some of them Olympians, have come forward to say he molested them.
