Trump Administration Request To Detain Immigrant Children Denied

A federal judge is denying a request from the U.S. Department of Justice to detain migrant children for longer than 20 days.

The Associated Press reports the decision was made Monday by Judge Dolly Gee.

The Justice Department had asked to be allowed to detain children long-term after President Trump declared an end to the controversial practice of separating families who enter the country illegally while they are being detained.

The goal of the request was to be able to keep families together while in custody.
