Ionia Co. man hit, killed on M-66 trying to help driver

RONALD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says a man hit and killed by a car on M-66 was crossing the roadway to help a stranded driver.

The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. Friday in Ronald Township, north of Ionia.

Authorities still aren’t releasing the man’s name, but say he was 61 years old and lived near the site of the crash, which happened on M-66 near Woods Road.

The good Samaritan died at the scene.

Authorities closed a portion of M-66 for several hours following the crash, which remains under investigation.
