GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are investigating a death at Mercy Health Saint Mary's after a patient was discharged.
Hospital officials were tight-lipped when 24 Hour News 8 sought answers Monday.
Police confirmed the man was in his 60s, but his name wasn't released and little else is known about him.
The man was found dead in a bathroom inside the hospital off of Jefferson Avenue SE. The death was reported to police Friday. Investigators are working to find out the cause and if a crime was committed.
The hospital did not say why the man was admitted, nor did it provide any details about his release.
It did provide this statement to 24 Hour News 8:
"Mercy Health's policy is to notify the appropriate authorities of any cases that may involve legal or police investigation; and shall notify the Medical Examiner's Office when applicable based on the Office of the Medical Examiner's criteria. Notifications occurred as required in the incident in question."
