Salmonella outbreak linked to cut melon at Walmart, Kroger

(WOOD) — Michigan’s Department of Agriculture and Department of Health and Human Services have issued a warning about a salmonella outbreak linked to pre-cut melon.

Most of the 60 people who have been infected with the strain of salmonella purchased pre-cut melon from either a Walmart or Kroger store, according to a release.

Currently, the outbreak is limited to five states in the Midwest, with 32 of the 60 cases in Michigan.

The departments are urging anyone who purchased pre-cut melon at either Walmart or Kroger to throw it away. Both chains are cooperating with the investigation and have removed fruit associated with the outbreak from their shelves.
