Reserve deputy hits 100 miles in run for fallen officers

BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kent County reserve deputy running across the state in honor of fallen officers hit a milestone Wednesday.

Kent County Sheriff's Department Traffic Squad Reserve Deputy Matt Garbarino started the “Run Across Michigan” Monday morning at the Fallen Heroes Memorial at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Pontiac.

The Byron Center man reached the 100-mile mark in his 160-mile journey shortly after noon Wednesday in Ionia County's Boston Township.

Garbarino has already made his way through Webberville, Lansing and Portland en route to the Ottawa County Protector Monument in West Olive.

He said to keep up his 40 mile per day pace, he must consume 4,000 calories each day.
