GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was seriously injured when he was stabbed at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids Monday evening.
The Grand Rapids Police Department says the 28-year-old victim suffered a serious cut to his neck. He made his own way to the hospital where he underwent surgery. Police said Tuesday the victim's condition is stable.
In an alert, Grand Rapids Community College said the attack shortly before 7:30 p.m. was random, which police confirmed at the time. However, Grand Rapids police said Tuesday that the suspect and victim knew each other, the victim was intentionally targeted, and that they may have gotten into another altercation earlier in the day.
The suspect was last seen running south, away from Rosa Parks Circle. He was described as a black man his 40s who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and has black wavy hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue pants and black sunglasses. He may go by the nickname, "Smoke."
Police say the suspect is believed to frequent the Heartside area and local missions.
