How Larry Nassar brushed off assault claims

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Before Larry Nassar received sentences that will keep him behind bars for the rest of his life, he tried dismissing sexual assault accusations by leveraging his reputation as a well-respected sports doctor and by blaming his victims.

24 Hour News 8 has obtained videos of Nassar being questioned by the Michigan State University Police Department. In 2014, Capt. Valerie O'Brien questioned him for more than two hours. In 2016, Detective Andrea Munford spent nearly 50 minutes asking Nassar about a new allegation.

Both interviews were voluntary, but only the second resulted in his arrest. In 2014, the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office declined to press charges.

Nassar was also interviewed in 2004 by Meridian Township police. The department told 24 Hour News 8 there's no video of that interview, though it previously released information about its failure to arrest him back then.
