Driver killed in Byron Center Avenue crash ID'd

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Wyoming police are releasing the name of the driver killed in a crash that shut down Byron Center Avenue for about five hours.

Officers say 28-year-old Mychael Broyles of Wyoming was killed in the crash, which happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday on Byron Center Avenue near Knollview Street SW, south of 44th Street.

Police say Broyles was heading north on Byron Center Avenue when he lost control of his car and hit a tree. He died at the scene.

Daylight revealed wreckage scattered along the roadway and wrapped around the trunk.

Wyoming officers say based on witness accounts, it appears speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Wyoming Department of Public Safety Chief Kim Koster tells 24 Hour News 8 the driver was the only person in the vehicle; that person died.

Southbound Byron Center Avenue reopened around 8 a.m. Friday; the northbound lanes reopened to traffic just after 9 a.m.
