Heat leads to second heave, closure on US-31

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) — Look out, lakeshore drivers: The  sizzling temperatures are leading to another traffic headache on US-31  in Muskegon County.

Norton Shores police say the intense heat has created a second  heave in the highway. Authorities are shutting down one of the  northbound lanes between Sternberg and Hile roads to repair it. The  closure is expected to be in place until 2 p.m. Thursday.

Wednesday  morning, workers fixed another section of northbound US-31 because of a  separate pavement heave. The shifted slab led to a bump in the  northbound lanes, just north of Sherman Avenue in Muskegon.
