OD victim in crash misidentified by authorities

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department had to issue a public correction Friday after a case of mistaken identity following a deadly crash 10 days ago.

The May 15 crash killed a 26-year-old man who authorities said was saved from a heroin overdose one day before – that turned out not be true.

Kevin Alleshouse, known as AJ, is described by those who knew him as someone who lived a bold and spontaneous life and did not worry about social convention, but was accepting and kindhearted despite difficulties that included time behind bars.

The death of Alleshouse is described by police this way:

He was driving around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday night on Stadium Drive when the person riding with him, 23-year-old Devon Wellington noticed Alleshouse was having what appeared to be a seizure.

Wellington allegedly got out of the car at an intersection planning to switch seats with Alleshouse, but instead he drove off leaving the passenger standing in the street and then crashing almost immediately into the back of a semi-truck carrying cars that was parked in a traffic lane.
