KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver was arrested after leading authorities from multiple agencies on several chases around Kalamazoo County Wednesday night.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff James Van Dyken told 24 Hour News 8 that the driver took off when Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers tried to make a traffic stop. After a short chase, officers terminated the pursuit.
KDPS officers spotted the driver again, but stopped chasing the vehicle after another brief pursuit, according to Van Dyken.
The vehicle was then seen in Oshtemo Township by Kalamazoo County sheriff’s deputies who also ended their pursuits. Authorities were able to lay down spike stripes, but didn’t disable the vehicle.
Kalamazoo Township police officers then located the vehicle on I-94 near Oakland Drive, where spikes strips were used to flatten the vehicle’s tires.
The suspect continued to drive on three flattened tires at speeds reaching 100 mph, according to Van Dyken. Authorities again ended the pursuit.
The car was found near the intersection of Stuart Avenue and West Main in Kalamazoo. KDPS officers located and arrested the suspect.
Van Dyken was unable to give specific locations but more details are expected to be released later.
