LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — A Marshall woman who spent eight years behind bars even after her adoptive son recanted his claims of sexual abuse has agreed to a settlement.
Lorinda Swain agreed to drop her lawsuit against Calhoun County and the estate of the late detective Guy Picketts for just under $2 million, her attorney told 24 Hour News 8 Thursday.
The settlement must still be approved by the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners. If it is, the payout will come from the county and its insurance company, MMRMA.
The potential deal comes about 10 months after Swain filed the federal lawsuit, which stemmed from her 2002 conviction of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
